I made this for our second project in Creative Arts class, our first being the front cover of our folders (I drew the Elrics, so I could look at it all during class. I don't regret doing so~ < 3). This is just the sketch I used to create the final product, an etching. Turned out pretty neat, even if my skills at drawing animals are pretty shabby.
So, why a butterfly? We could pick from any animal or flower, but I chose a freakin' butterfly. Ha ha. It's possibly the only insect, or even animal, I can draw and not kill myself while doing so. But when it came time for putting in the etch lines... oh boy, did I regret picking a butterfly and flowers. Worst of all, I had to etch a ton of it with a thumbtack and a needle, because I'm a slow worker and had to take it home. The pain, the unbearable pain. Then I got to paint it with my own watercolours, which was good in a way. I have this lamp on my desk (this desk!) that really heats up, so it got dried really quickly, which was a good thing, considering it was three in the morning;x At any rate, the poor light bulb went out, and I made my dad buy a new one, because the lamp requires a special bulb.
That was a long and pointless story... eh heh.
Well, maybe one of these days, Ms. Pennington, my art teacher, will give me back the etching, and I'll be able to scan it. Of course, if she puts it up at the local art museum, like she said she would, I probably won't get it back until the end of the year... x_x;;;
That's so pretty! Is the 'etching' that you're talking about on scratchboard? That's fun to play with, but if you had to do all the little lines you have on here, than I can see why you would think it would be a pain. But it must have come out beautiful, because this ink sketch is really nice. Great job.
